Defend jobs, defend education: FE national day of protest
30 June 2009
With every day bringing news of yet more job cuts in our FE colleges, UCU is asking all members to support our joint union day of protest.
Friday 3 July: day of protest
All the FE unions have combined to call this day of protest to send a clear message of support to our members fighting the cuts and a message to college managers and politicians alike that we will not stand by and watch our sector being undermined.
While politicians intone about the importance of further and adult education, the government and the funding bodies are standing by and watching as colleges try to pass funding cuts onto staff and students from our most vulnerable and neediest communities. The day of protest is intended to show colleges, funding bodies and government alike the reality of the cuts crisis and to tell them that now is not the time for job cuts in education. Colleagues at Tower Hamlets and Hackney Community College will be taking strike action on the same day.
