Challenging the market in education conference: UCU North West region

6 November 2008

UCU North-West presents: Challenging the market in education - building the resistance, creating alternatives

A conference for union members interested in challenging the marketisation of tertiary education.

31 January 2009
Mechanics Institute, Major St (off Princess St), Manchester, M1 6DD

As the market collapses around us, the question of who pays for the crisis will shape the future for all those involved in education.  It is vital that as active trade unionists, we can arm our members with the arguments needed to build the resistance. At the same time we need to create our alternative visions of an education worth fighting for.

UCU North-West invites all members and other education trade unionists to join us for this key event.

With speakers, workshops and panel including:

  • Sasha Callaghan, UCU president
  • Professor Dexter Whitfield, European Services Strategy Unit
  • Terry Wrigley, Edinburgh University
  • plus speakers from the Anti-Academies Alliance and the Campaign for Adult & Lifelong Learning
