Sector conference rejects 1.5% pay offer: ballot for national strike action

The special FE sector conference voted to reject the AoC pay offer of 1.5%  to staff in FE colleges in England. The offer was seen as derisory, falling short of the 2.3% awarded to schoolteachers and  a step backwards on achieving parity.
 
It was agreed to hold an industrial action ballot of members for a programme of national strike action to secure an improved offer from employers. This would be an escalating programme of strikes starting with one day and moving to two and three days actions in subsequent weeks

The FEC submitted the following motion:

'Sector conference rejects the 1.5% pay offer from the AOC for 2009-10. It instructs the FEC to conduct an industrial action ballot of members for a programme of national strike action in order to secure an improved pay offer from the employers.'
