Durham to scrap nine-month contracts after UCU-backed campaign
18 May 2018
UCU has welcomed a move by Durham University to scrap the use of nine-month contracts for teaching staff.
The university made the decision following an online campaign by a group of casual staff which revealed that many teaching staff on nine-month contracts were not being paid for preparatory work undertaken over the summer months.
After backing the campaign UCU formally requested a minimum duration of 12 months for all fixed-term contracts at the university.
