How UCU membership works for precariously employed and unemployed staff

Already a member? If you are already a UCU member and currently out of work, you can claim free membership for a year via our 'attached unemployed' membership status.

Join UCU for £1 per month: if you are not currently a member, you cannot join UCU via our free 'attached unemployed' membership status. However, if you are precariously employed and having trouble finding work, we would like to invite you to consider joining UCU on our lowest subscription band for members earning £5,000 per year or less. It only costs £1 per month but it comes with a range of benefits and it increases our power to represent you and negotiate on your behalf.

Up to one year of free membership: depending on your role you may qualify for our popular one-year standard free membership scheme.
