Tomorrow's academics

Recent policy initiatives in higher education research and teaching, for example, the Research Excellence Framework and the proposed Teaching Excellence Framework, have failed to address the critical role played by academic and professional staff.
 
This paper seeks to sketch out a policy agenda for academic careers in higher education. It addresses core issues such as the replenishment of the teaching and research workforce, the particular difficulties facing 'early career' and casualised academic staff and the importance of creating viable and attractive career paths for all types of academic and academic-related, professional roles.
