UCU policy position on MOOCs
27 February 2014
This policy paper outlines the basis of a UCU position on MOOCs.
While the UCU supports the principle of offering free education courses to anyone with internet access, we have a number of reservations and concerns about the development of MOOCs in UK higher education.
Our key concerns include increased commercialisation, lack of transparency and accountability and detrimental impact on working conditions, including intellectual property rights. The paper calls for continued feedback from UCU branches and members on what is happening at your institution.
