Implementing the framework
24 October 2006
The academic unions reached an agreement with the national higher education employers' body early in 2004 on the way forward for modernising higher education pay and grading structures.
Since then we have been working hard to get the new structures and resulting pay increases, as encompassed by the Framework Agreement, and, for pre-92 universities, the accompanying Memorandum of Understanding, introduced at individual institutions.
We also worked to ensure that all structures were implemented with an effective date of 1 August 2006 with backdating where necessary.
UCU made a strong and public commitment to provide full national support for any branch or local association who finds their management unwilling to adhere to the nationally agreed principles when implementing the new arrangements. We will not hesitate to name and shame the offenders.
