UCU Rising: Halfway through the ballot

28 September 2022

The past three weeks of this campaign have been incredible. You've recorded tens of thousands of votes, attended hundreds of meetings and sent endless pet pictures on social media (please keep them coming).

We are halfway through our ballot period but there is still much to do to deliver the biggest possible YES vote. I know that many of you are now returning to your workplaces and I want you to make sure that the first thing you do is to vote and send off your ballot. If you haven't received your ballot paper, then please order a replacement ballot as soon as possible. Once you have voted it is vital that you let us know so that we don't keep pestering you to find out.

UCU Live: Ask Jo - 19:30 TOMORROW (Thursday 29 September)

I know that there are some of you that are still unsure about voting yes in this ballot. If that is you, or if you have any other questions about the ballot, then I want to hear from you.

I am hosting a special UCU Live session on Thursday at 19:30 on YouTube, Facebook and Twitter where I will answer your questions. Please send your questions, however difficult, as either a short video message or as a text question via WhatsApp to the UCU Hotline on +447890890273 or via email to campaigns@ucu.org.uk.

Enough is Enough rally in Brighton - 19:00 Tuesday 4 October

We have rescheduled our joint rally with the Enough is Enough campaign in Brighton to Tuesday 4 October at 19:00. Join me, Mick Lynch, Dave Ward, Zarah Sultana as well as other speakers.

You can sign up for exclusive UCU-only tickets before they are released to the public. This is not one to be missed.

Super Saturday - Show your solidarity on 1 October

As you know, it is not just UCU members in HE, FE and prison education that are rising up and saying that enough is enough. This Saturday our comrades in the CWU who have been delivering your ballots, the RMT, ASLEF and TSSA will all be out on strike.

On the same day, the Enough is Enough campaign is hosting their national day of action with protests and actions taking place across the country.

I know just how many of you will be out on the picket lines and protests showing solidarity - make sure that you bring your banners, your UCU Rising merch and that you are posting it all on social media with #ucuRISING. And if you've not posted your ballot yet, bring it with you to the picket on the way to the post box.

I have been inspired by our members during this ballot. Let us continue to draw strength from our friends in other fighting unions and deliver the biggest YES vote in the history of higher education.

In solidarity

Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
