Respect FE ballot results and next steps

5 April 2022

UCU general secretary Jo Grady reported today that an 'incredible' 91% of members who took part in the recent indicative ballot said they were willing to take industrial action in pursuit of the campaign's demands

In her message to members she also reported that 'colleges that achieved particularly high turnout in the indicative ballot will soon move towards statutory postal ballots for industrial action - the last step branches need to take before they can take industrial action in pursuit of a better deal.'

The 2022-23 joint union pay claim [561kb] has now been formally submitted to the Association of Colleges, and includes demands for a 10% pay increase, all colleges to become living wage employers, and meaningful national agreements to address workload issues.

Last year 15 FE branches in England held statutory ballots on pay and other issues and went on to achieve improved offers from their employer after getting strong results and in some cases taking action.

Jo also urged members to sign our new petition to build support for our new charter for professional respect, before heading into negotiations with employers.
