USS resigned

Making an impact

20 March 2018

The general secretary today reported on two key items in her latest email to members in higher education, including those taking action in defence of their USS pension scheme.

Although not directly related to the USS dispute, one piece of undoubted good news involved the planned deportation of Dr Ernesto Schwartz Marin and Dr Arely Cruz Santiago from Durham University. UCU took his case up directly with the Home Office, ' Sally reported, telling members 'your response was fantastic and I wanted to let you know that our colleagues have now been granted indefinite leave to remain. As Ernesto himself noted in a message to supporters, his case is just the tip of the iceberg and we will continue to campaign against the unfair immigration policies of the current government.'

She also updated members on last week's call for members to consider resigning external examiner posts at USS institutions as a way of showing support for colleagues in dispute and increasing the pressure upon the employers. 'Again, the response has been terrific', she said. 'There are more details here including the link for a resignation list to which we would encourage you can add your name.'
