USS member consultative ballot

UCU is holding a consultative ballot of members in majority USS institutions because the scheme's trustees say that a further 6.6% increase in contributions is required in order to maintain existing pension benefits at their current level.
The employers' collective position is that they will not pay any more, which means pensions benefits could be cut for younger members and those nearer retirement may need to work longer than expected.
