UCU comment on Labour pledge to increase funding for lifelong learning

10 May 2017

Commenting on Labour's announcement today (Wednesday) that it would increase funding for lifelong learning in colleges and reintroduce student maintenance grants if in government, UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said:

'It is encouraging that Labour has recognised the need for more investment in colleges and lifelong learning. Further education has borne the brunt of recent spending cuts, so the next government must work to ensure that everyone can access the learning they need to fulfil their potential.

'UCU's manifesto sets out a clear vision for lifelong learning which is well-resourced and accessible to all. We hope that other political parties will follow Labour's lead and set out how they plan to fund skills in the future.'
