Classes already cancelled at Liverpool universities ahead of tomorrow's strike
30 October 2013
Classes at Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Hope University have already been cancelled ahead of a strike tomorrow by members of UCU, Unite and UNISON in a row over pay.
The unions said they expected there to be widespread support across the UK for the first walk out over pay in universities for seven years. More details on closures, pickets and regional rallies can be found at UCU's live blogging site, which has now launched a day early with so much already happening - www.ucu.org.uk/fairpayinhelive

Staff will be on picket lines at institutions in Liverpool from 7.30am. Some of the key locations are below. They will then make their way to University Place, L3 5RF, for a rally at 1pm. Staff are then expected to march to St George's Plateau, L1 1JJ, where business secretary Vince Cable is due to give a speech at 1.30pm.
Key pickets:
Liverpool Hope University:
Taggart Avenue at the Hope Park Campus, L16 9JD and at the Creative Campus, Shaw Street, L6 1HP
Liverpool John Moores University:
Kingsway House, L3 2AJ and Egerton Court, L3 5UZ
University of Liverpool
Sidney Jones library (Abercromby Square/Chatham Street), L7 7BD
UCU Regional Support Official, Roger Grigg, said: 'Staff at Liverpool's universities are angry they've had to endure massive pay cuts in recent years. This year's miserly 1% pay offer, at a time of rising bills and increased pension contributions, was the straw that broke the camel's back.
'Staff love their jobs, but their goodwill cannot continue to be taken for granted. We are already starting to see the impact our action is having.'
