UCU comment on Witty review of universities and growth

15 October 2013

UCU today welcomed calls for greater funding for research in universities and the recommendation that universities across the country should benefit from the extra money.

Commenting on the recommendations outlined in Encouraging a British Invention Revolution: Sir Andrew Witty's Review of Universities and Growth, UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'The UK is a world leader when it comes to research, with universities at the heart of our proud reputation for excellence. It is absolutely vital that we continue to harness the brilliant work our academics are doing.

'To remain competitive on a global scale we need to be pushing at the boundaries of research and encouraging academics with support for innovation and, of course, through better funding. We are pleased that Sir Andrew Witty has recognised the importance of our uniquely diverse university sector and that it should be funded properly.'
