UCU calls on Colombian university to ensure the safety of Dr. Renan Vega

Dr Renan Vega, an academic at the National Pedagogic University of Colombia, was forced to flee his country in August this year, as a result of false accusations and a series of paramilitary threats against him.

Because of this situation, he has been carrying out a research commission for the university, allowing him to continue his academic work whilst living abroad. However, the commission has now expired.

We are concerned that if Dr. Vega does not receive an extension of the commission he may be forced to return to Colombia where his life will be in great danger, or risk being cut off from his research.

UCU has written to the National Pedagogic University of Colombia to urge them to grant an extension of Dr. Renan Vega's research commission.
