UCU calls for GCSE grade slump investigation

31 August 2012

UCU has today written to the chairman of the education select committee, Graham Stuart MP, to call for the committee to investigate the unexpected decline in GCSE results.

In the letter, the UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, says she welcomes the move by Ofqual to conduct an investigation, but calls on the select committee to conduct its own thorough investigation following contact from UCU members that illustrates the steep decline in GCSE success this summer.

UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'We believe students' work needs to be regraded to accurately reflect the work they have put in. Furthermore we need proper parliamentary scrutiny into what happened this summer. It is simply not acceptable for thousands of students to see their hard work not properly recognised because of late changes to the marking system.'
