UCU supports National Union of Students' week of action

12 March 2012

The National Union of Students' week of action begins today as students across the UK call on government and universities to 'Come Clean' on their plans for higher education.

The week of protest, lobbying and debate will centre around a national walkout at 12pm on Wednesday when students will take part in marches, rallies, teach-outs, discussions, petition signings and other campaign actions on campuses across the UK.

UCU is supporting the students' actions and members in universities across the UK have been arranging activities with their local students' union. The two unions have a proud history of working together to demand improved conditions for staff and students, including during the recent industrial action over changes to staff pensions.

UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'Students and staff have a proud history of working together. While some in the sector have failed to defend higher education, staff and students continue to make the case for affordable, high-quality university education.'
