Latest on the TPS dispute

23 January 2012

On Friday 20 January, the national executive committee (NEC) of UCU voted to reject the government's reforms of the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS).

The changes, which affect around 60,000 UCU members, will result in members paying higher pension contributions and many working longer to get an equivalent pension to their current entitlement.

The motion commits the union to reject the government's offer, name a day of national strike action on 1 March (to which other unions are to be invited), and to further regional strike days during February.

The NEC will reconvene on Friday 10 February to consider a report from the general secretary on her discussions with other unions and feedback from branches on the union's position.
