'I am devastated by the death of my fine trade union colleague, Steve Sinnott - a very good friend to me and to UCU. Our love and thoughts are with Steve's family and friends at this very sad time - and of course with NUT members and staff.

'Teachers have lost a dedicated campaigner for better pay and conditions. Education has lost a man who stood up for excellent schools for everyone and was well respected for his work internationally. We shall miss him terribly,' she said.
