UCU Congress 2024: general secretary's speech

Tomorrow [Wednesday 29 May 2024] will see hundreds of UCU representatives gather in Bournemouth at the start of our Congress. This is a vital event where ideas are discussed, strategy is set, and solidarity is shared.

This year I wanted to open up the event more than ever. This is why I have recorded my address to Congress in advance so it can be shared with all members. I want the whole union from me as general secretary right through to our newest member to feel that our events are accountable and open to them.

If you are motivated to get involved, then please do so. Recruit a colleague, become a rep and who knows--next year you could be making a speech and setting a policy at Congress which improves the working lives of our members.
