Back each other. Back the boycott.
23 May 2023
The marking and assessment boycott (MAB) is working.
The punitive deductions from employers are an act of desperation and intimidation. We will not bow down. We are stepping up our support for members facing punitive deductions. We are extending eligibility for the national fighting fund to members facing deductions of 50% or more.
We will be updating members in the next week on the details, including how to claim.
In further evidence of the pressure we have on the employers, yesterday we saw the University of Cambridge sign a joint statement with UCU calling on UCEA to 'urgently' resume negotiations with the union. Cambridge can see that the only way to find a resolution so students can progress is by getting back around the negotiating table. We need every member in every university in the country putting pressure on their university management to follow Cambridge's lead.
This progress would not have been possible without the support of our students. When students move, our employers move. That is why we are highlighting student voices across our channels, supporting the student-led #SettleTheDispute campaign and working closely with student groups across the UK.
This is also why we have asked every branch to organise an event this week - inviting members and students. If you are not sure what is happening at your branch, get in touch with your reps.
Back each other. Back the boycott.
UCU and proud.
In solidarity
Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
