Ballots arriving

Update on negotiations and our reballot

13 February 2023

Today we met with UCEA at the mediators Acas (Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service). Talks are continuing with the aim of resolving the dispute.

Tomorrow we need every single member that has been backing us in the negotiations today to be backing us on the picket lines in the morning. It is the pressure of our action that has gotten us this far and we need it to continue for as long as it takes.

Financial support will be there for members who support the action. Our national fighting fund is open and many of our branches have local hardship funds as well. Please speak to your local reps for more information.

We have today also served notice to employers of a reballot in both the pay and conditions and USS disputes with ballots arriving from Wednesday 22 February. We must reballot our members to extend our mandate to keep the pressure up on our employers. You can find more information about the reballot here.

We will be launching our ballot with a huge UCU Live event on Tuesday 21 February at 19:30. Set a reminder now to watch on YouTubeFacebook and Twitter. We need all of you there to show the employers that we are committed to this for as long as it takes and that they cannot wait us out.

Check that your details are up to date on MyUCU and speak to your colleagues now to make sure they are prepared.

A successful resolution to our disputes is within our reach but we cannot take our foot off the gas.

In solidarity

Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
