UCU Rising: live solidarity event, tomorrow at 19:30

7 February 2023

As we prepare for two more days of strike action this week (Thursday 9 and Friday 10 February), we know that the support for our union is only growing.

Join us tomorrow (Wednesday 8 February) at 19:30 on YouTubeFacebook and Twitter for a huge UCU Live solidarity event, hearing from students, trade unionists, and other supporters about why they will be supporting our picket lines on Thursday and Friday.

Our vice chancellors are running scared. They are scared because they see our action is working. They are scared from the positive media coverage we are getting. They are scared because of the support that we are getting--from students, from parents, from the wider trade union movement but most of all from you.

Vice chancellors refuse to debate. They refuse to be accountable. But they are also refusing to put to us a rounded offer on pay that deals with casualisation, workloads, equality pay gaps or commitment to restoring the theft of our pensions.

They claimed that last week our picket lines were small and that disruption was minimal. We know that this is pure desperation.

But to keep up the pressure we have to keep going. Our picket lines on Thursday and Friday need to be long and loud to let our employers know that we are not going anywhere.

Back the union. Back the strikes.

In solidarity

Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
