UCU urges the government to scrap the immigration health surcharge
22 May 2020
Following the government's decision to exempt NHS and care workers from the Immigration Health Surcharge, the Migrant Members' Standing Committee has published a statement calling for the government to go further and scrap the charge entirely.
The statement outlines how the £400 a year fee is a punitive double tax on migrant staff and calls for it to be abolished alongside other up-front costs for health care as part of a move towards a more humane immigration system.
