UCU reballot: vote YES to join the action
7 December 2021
From today members across 42 universities will again start receiving ballot papers for industrial action.
I am asking you to vote YES to strike action and YES to action short of a strike, and to return your completed papers in the envelope provided straight away. Please do this before Christmas to avoid any potential delays with the postal service.
Why are UCU asking me to vote again?
As you know UCU members were recently balloted for strike action over pay, equality, workload and casualisation and, in some universities, over cuts to the USS pension. University employers have consistently failed to address these issues.
The union has decided to re-ballot branches where turnout was over 40%, but did not meet the anti-union threshold of 50%. Your vote is now absolutely essential to increase the pressure on your employers. You will be joining thousands of UCU members who already have a six-month mandate, and who have just taken strike action between Wednesday 1 and Friday 3 December.
How can I help the campaign?
Here are some actions you can take to support the union's campaign
- vote YES to strike action and YES to action short of a strike
- talk to at least 10 colleagues and remind them to vote
- contact your branch and offer to help get the vote out
- show your support by changing your profile pictures on social media and using our other campaign resources
- talk to non-union colleagues and students about why you are taking action.
The ballots close on Friday 14 January 2022 at 12 noon, so please post your papers as soon as possible. The latest safe date to post your ballot paper is Tuesday 12 January 2022.
With best wishes
Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
