Record increase in university applications prompts calls for more student places and investment in staff

Responding to the latest UCAS data released today, UCU Scotland official, Mary Senior, said: 'It is hugely encouraging to see record numbers of applicants to Scotland's universities. With applications up across the sector, this is an overwhelming vote of confidence in the high-quality teaching and support that university staff provide to their students.

'It is vital that the Scottish government provides the funding for places for additional Scottish-domiciled applicants to study at university, and that universities invest in their staff to match the increased student numbers."
