UCU response to Jo Johnson's resignation

5 September 2019

Commenting on the resignation of universities minister Jo Johnson, University and College Union general secretary Jo Grady said:

'After a cull of MPs who dared to challenge the prime minister's reckless approach to Brexit and democracy, it appears not even his own family can support him. We need to remove the damaging no-deal Brexit option from the table and allow our parliamentarians to properly debate the issue. This current farce and political game-playing is doing nothing for our standing in the world and is monopolising too much of parliament's and our time.

'In the face of ongoing uncertainly, those working and studying in the UK desperately need a champion who is prepared to fight for the sector at a time of unprecedented political upheaval. And a prime minister who will allow them to make that case.'
