UCU welcomes NUT decision to strike on pay

2 April 2008

UCU has welcomed the news that members of the National Union of Teachers (NUT) have voted in favour of strike action on 24 April in pursuance of their pay demand.

Barry Lovejoy, head of further education at UCU, urged UCU FE members to vote in the current ballot on industrial action, which closes on 14 April.

He said: 'I congratulate the NUT on this outcome, which demonstrates the determination of fellow education workers to fight for fair treatment. I am confident that the ballot UCU is currently conducting, on our own separate pay dispute, will also be well supported. I urge all UCU members in FE to use their vote in the current ballot.

'We look forward to joint activities with NUT on 24 April in defence of our schools, our colleges and our communities.'
