UCU releases motions for union's inaugural congress

From Wednesday 30 May - Friday 1 June, some 400 number delegates will gather in Bournemouth for the congress. The union today published the full list of motions. The running order of debates will be confirmed at a later date.

UCU was formed on 1 June 2006 following the merger of the Association of University Teachers (AUT) and the National Association of Teachers in Further and Higher Education (NATFHE).

UCU joint general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'A wide range of motions has been submitted by UCU branches for discussion at our inaugural Congress. I am really looking forward to three days of lively debate. This first Congress will set the tone for the largest post-16 education union in the world and really allow us to start working to represent our vast membership.'

Speakers confirmed for the three-day conference include Bill Rammell MP, minister for lifelong learning, further and higher education, Professor Sir David King, chief scientific advisor to the government, and Frances O'Grady, TUC deputy general secretary.
