UCU national executive committee casual vacancies: call for nominations

Attention is drawn to the following national executive committee casual vacancies for which nominations are now open:

  • UK-elected NEC member, further education - ONE vacancy
  • Geographically-elected NEC members, South, further education - TWO vacancies

Casual vacancy: UK-elected NEC member, further education

Lauren Mura (Blackburn College) resigned in February due to ill-health, having served less than one year of a two-year term as a UK elected NEC member from the further education sector.  In accordance with rules 21.5 and 21.8, a by-election must now be held.  The term of office for this casual vacancy will be from the declaration of the election result until the close of UCU's annual Congress in 2022.

Casual vacancies: geographically-elected NEC members (South), further education

Alison Chapman (City College Plymouth) and Philip Wilson (Chichester College Group) were elected to the office of geographically-elected NEC member (South) from the further education sector to take up office from the close of Congress 2021 for a term of two years.  They resigned in May, Alison due to appointment as a UCU member of staff from 21 June. In accordance with rules 21.5 and 21.8, by-elections must now be held.  The term of office for these casual vacancies will be from the declaration of the election result until the close of UCU's annual Congress in 2023.

Any ballots required will take place during September 2021.

Nominations

The calling notice and  nomination form [131kb] for these vacancies is now available. Attention is also drawn to the election guidance notes below.  The deadline for receipt of nominations to these vacancies is 17:00 on 9 July 2021, including the receipt of all support for nominations, and receipt of election address. Nominations, made on the appropriate form, should be sent electronically (as signed, scanned pages) to Kay Metcalfe. Receipt of all nominations will be acknowledged.
