The UCU education programme in Scotland offers reps the opportunity to acquire new skills in a practical and supportive environment. Our UCU courses are tailored to take account of Scotland's devolved nation status and where possible a member of the Scotland UCU staff team will be present to advise.

Bargaining for a Green New Deal: June 2024

This course is for all Green reps along with those in the branch who are interested in bargaining around environmental issues. The course will help reps navigate UCU Green New Deal bargaining advice and enable you to work on a potential claim to the employer along with looking at a deep organising approach to any campaign strategy.

Effective negotiating & bargaining skills: 20, 21, 22, August 2024, in person, Glasgow, Scotland

This course is for those who are negotiating with management or those in the branch who want to learn more about the negotiating process. You will learn about the phases of negotiation, how to represent members effectively, how to develop arguments, define a bargaining strategy and respond to unfair tactics. This course will also touch on some of the practices taught in both strike school and organising for power.

Job evaluation: A collective approach, July 2024

This one day course is for branch reps and activists who are involved and interested in learning more about the importance of trade union involvement and representation in job evaluation schemes. The focus of the course will be around the use of collective action wherever possible.
