Survivors Create!

Who are we?

The UCU sexual violence task group is formed of UCU members who are working together, alongside UCU staff, to produce research, resources and recommendations that will inform and develop UCU's organising and campaigning in areas related to experiences of sexual violence in tertiary education (this includes FE, HE, prison education and adult education).

We seek to ensure that the voices of survivors of sexual violence in tertiary education are central to the work of the task group and as such have designed this portal in an effort to ensure survivors can contribute to the work of the task group in a range of ways. Alongside other methods, including surveying members and branches, and carrying out one-to-one survivor-centred conversations, we are inviting submissions from survivors to this portal.

What are you being asked to do?

Submit some writing, audio or visuals, either pre-existing or something you create especially for this call, in response to one or all of the following prompts:

  • support
  • safety
  • wishes and needs
  • a survivor-centred trade union.

Your contribution could take the form of poetry, other kinds of writing, song, images, drawing, painting, a poster, memes, gifs, or any other creative expression you like. We can accept a range of file formats including: PDF, doc, txt, jpg, gif, png, mp4 and wav. This portal will close on 29 March 2021.

Please note that this portal is not a way to make a report to UCU. For information on UCU's dedicated support helpline for members who have concerns, or are experiencing sexual violence please click here . You can call this helpline on 0800 138 8724 in confidence, 24/7, and free of charge.

What will my contribution be used for?

Submissions to this portal will be used to inform the work of the task group and may be used (anonymously) in a range of anticipated outputs for example, a report, a conference, a website. When you submit your contribution, you will be asked if you would like to opt out of your submission being used or quoted in one of our outputs. As all submissions are anonymous, you will not be able to change your mind after submission.

Anonymity

Please ensure your submission is anonymous and does not identify yourself or anyone else. All identifiable information will be removed.

How do I make my submission?

You can make your submission below.

Please note the portal will close for submissions on 23 March 2021. If you have any questions about the portal please contact SexualViolenceTaskGroup@ucu.org.uk.
