Red Bobble - 'To Walk In Your Shoes'

'To Walk In Your Shoes'

16 May 2018

As part of Black History Month 2017 the UCU Yorkshire and Humberside Black Members' Network hosted a performance of the Red Bobble Theatre Company's 'To Walk In Your Shoes'. Compiled from real life interviews with asylum seekers and refugees living in the North of England the play explores the side without a voice. With stories from Syria, Iran, Pakistan, Eritrea and recounting their experiences living in the UK, the play explores the strength and resilience of the human spirit and challenges the myths and untruths perpetuated by the media.

The network were pleased to welcome local civic dignitaries and members of the UCU Black Members' Standing Committee including the chair Dave Muritu who chaired an invigorating post performance discussion. The full house on a Sunday afternoon was testament to the success of the event which brought together activists, artists and members of the community in a celebration of the resilience of the human spirit.
