UCU comment on Qualified Teacher Status consultation

Commenting on the Department for Education's new consultation on Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and teacher training, published today (Friday), UCU general secretary Sally Hunt said:

'This consultation sets out a clear commitment to strengthening the professional development of teachers throughout their career, and gives welcome recognition to the vital role which higher education plays in teacher training.

'Universities have a long history of recruiting and educating teachers in partnership with schools, and they should have a central part to play in delivering a strengthened professional development offer. We will be engaging closely with the consultation in the coming weeks to ensure that the experience of those currently delivering teacher education is reflected.'
