UCU comment on Labour charter for National Education Service

'This draft charter is a great starting point for developing an alternative to our fragmented education system. It recognises that education is a public good and that cost should never be a barrier to participation in learning. Ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or background, can freely access the learning they need whenever they need it should be a top priority for any government.

'The charter also gives welcome recognition to the fact that a high-quality education system relies on well-trained and well-supported staff. However, the devil is in the detail and warm words must be matched with solid plans for additional investment into our lifelong learning system. We look forward to engaging with Labour in the coming months to develop this vision for an education system which truly works for staff and students alike.'
