30 January 2017 | last updated: 31 January 2017

UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, will be speaking tonight (Monday) at a rally outside Downing Street from 6pm to protest against US President Donald Trump's travel ban.

Thousands of people are expected to gather at protests in London, other UK cities and around the world. Other speakers at tonight's event include Ed Miliband MP, Owen Jones and Baroness Shami Chakrabarti.

UCU general secretary, Sally Hunt, said: 'As educators and trade unionists we condemn Donald Trump's attempt to demonise and divide human beings based on their nationality or religion. We stand with the thousands protesting in New York and across the world against this appalling policy.

'We ask staff working in what is an international sector who may be directly affected by this ban on travel to contact UCU so we can make urgent representations to the UK government on your behalf.'
