Challenging and handling redundancy course image

Challenging redundancy: a course for all reps and activists

The threat of redundancy has never been more acute for UCU members. This course is for all branch reps & activists who are likely to be involved in challenging redundancies and/or supporting members facing redundancy.

Never before has the constant threat of redundancy been so present and devastating. This course will help you agitate, education and organise members to challenge the management narrative around redundancy.

We recommend that all reps and branch activists take this course especially if you know that redundancies are on the horizon. Organising early, educating members, and mounting an effective challenging campaign is key to mitigating employers decisions. However, if you find yourselves in the midst of a redundancy situation it is never too late to take this course, it will give you the opportunity to learn and plan your actions.

This course will cover:

  • what the law says
  • organising and involving members
  • campaigning and challenging the narrative
  • how redundancy affects different equality groups
  • identifying alternative solutions
  • collectivising and individual need

Please see here for information about time off for UCU courses https://www.ucu.org.uk/article/4903/Facilities-and-time-off-for-UCU-reps

We would recommend that as many of your branch or branch committee attend this course at the same time. This will allow you to leave with a plan around how you might challenge current and future redundancies.

If there are no course dates listed below, or if you'd like to be made aware of further dates, please register your interest here.
