UCU Scotland Congress to debate constitutional change

A question time event will discuss the implications of independence or further devolution for universities at UCU Scotland's annual congress on Friday 22 March 2012.

The Post-16 Bill, higher education governance, widening access, management of workload, open access publication, immigration and student exploitation are just a few of the topics relevant to Scottish higher education that will be discussed at the one day conference at the Macdonald Crutherland House, East Kilbride, which begins at 9.15 am.

The expert panel for the constitutional debate is:

  • Chair: Dave Anderson - President Elect, UCU Scotland
  • Professor Sheila Riddell - ESRC Fellow on higher education and devolution at Edinburgh University
  • Alastair Sim - Director, Universities Scotland
  • Stacey Divine - Women's Officer, NUS Scotland
  • Helen Martin - Assistant Secretary, STUC
  • Michael MacNeil - National Head of Higher Education, UCU

Other keynote speakers will include UCU Scotland president Gordon Watson who will deliver his Presidential address.
