UCU learning Rep 1: induction: role and function, 24, October, 2024, National course, Online

This one day course will introduce you to the role and functions of a UCU learning rep. This is a unique role within a branch and one which allows you to work with members to ensure professional development and life long learning are recognised by the employer. This course will help you understand the legislation that underpins the role and how you can develop the role in your branch and begin to negotiate for improvements and parity for all.

Course Date: 24, October, 2024

Venue: Online via teams or zoom. Course materials will be accessible via a unique Share Point site, full instructions will be given.

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with regular breaks) 

The course will cover the following:

  • Your rights as a UCU union learning rep/statutory facility time 

  • Barriers to learning and development in your workplace 

  • Equality issues around access to members learning and professional development 

  • The role of the ULR in the branch 

  • Working in your branch

  • Involving members

  • Planning and next steps for the branch 

Information Facility time

Online courses are no different to face-to-face courses in terms of time off for training. Time off for training is a right and one which should be exercised as part of normal industrial relations. For more info please see  Facilities and time off for UCU reps.

When you apply for a course we will assume that are making a commitment to attend the course as advertised, and have secured time off from your employer. Please contact your branch/region if you are having problems securing time off.
