Online event: a safe reopening of our colleges, Tue 1 Sep, 4pm

29 August 2020

There is an increasing focus on how colleges within the UK will manage the start of teaching and reopen safely as the beginning of term approaches.

UCU is working across England, Wales and Northern Ireland to ensure that your college is abiding by the agreed protocols we have established. Where this is not the case, UCU is raising this with individual employers.

We know however that people still have questions and concerns about a return to the classroom.

In response to this UCU is hosting a live webinar entitled 'Is it safe to reopen universities and colleges'. I'll be leading the webinar and I'll be joined by Larissa Kennedy, NUS President; Janet Farrar, UCU president-elect; and Professor Elizabeth Stokoe and Professor Ann Phoenix, members of the Independent Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies.

Please join the webinar live on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter next Tuesday 1 September, 4pm.

This event is an important space to bring together key voices from tertiary education and gain insights from students and scientists about what a safe return to our campuses must involve.

I hope you can join us. After the panel discussion there will be a Q&A, and you will be able to ask questions via whichever platform you choose to view the event.

All best,

Jo Grady
UCU general secretary
