UCU Equality Reps induction: starting 29 June 2020.

This course is designed for new Equality Reps along with other branch Reps who are keen to understand more about organising and bargaining around equality. The course will look at the current pandemic and it's impact on those with protected characteristics. There will also be an opportunity to talk about how current global events might help open branch conversations around grater equality in the workplace.

Course format: The course is delivered by a TUC tutor over the course of three weeks and will consist of a combination of virtual course meetings and self directed work. The course is 12 hours in total. There is an expectation that you will complete the self-directed study element in order that this course can be offered free to UCU

Course meeting dates: 29th June 6th & 16th July 2020

Course meeting duration: One and a half hours 

Course meeting times: Unless advised otherwise by you course tutor, all course meetings will take place between 10:30 a.m. and 12 noon

The course will cover the following:

·        The role of the Equality Rep within the branch and institution

·        An overview of equality legislation and the impact of the Corona Virus act

·        UCU Equality structures

·        How to Campaign and organise around equality

·        How the current pandemic is affecting organising and bargaining around equality

Please note. As with face to face courses time off along with permission from your employer to attend (should it be necessary) should still be sought. Time off to attend should not unreasonably be denied.

This course will run again very shortly - so if you do not manage to get a place this time, we will keep your name on a waiting list and run further courses depending on demand.
