UCU response to Office for Students annual review

19 December 2019

UCU has today responded to the first annual review of the Office for Students.

UCU general secretary Jo Grady said: 'The UK rightly has a reputation for its world class universities and this is because of its world class staff, who deserve proper pay, job security, working conditions and pensions.  UCU members at universities across the UK have been forced to take strike action to defend both their pay and pensions and I hope that employers will listen to staff to avoid further disruption in the coming months.'

Commenting on potential reform of university admissions Jo said: 'The UK needs a better admissions process and should shift to a post-qualification system where students receive offers after their results. This would not only be fairer for students, but would bring the UK into line with the rest of the world, rather than using the current method that bases offers on vague estimates of potential over actual achievement.'
